 France

Ah... France, home of wine....  So far weve suffered the delights of Champagne, Sancerre, Beaujolais, Tain-Hermitage and Cotes du Rhone, staying in chambres dhotes or gites.  Its the way to see France...  The beast of burden for all these trips has been the faithful Renault Megane Sport Coupe which blends in the scenery very well as you can see, here with sunflowers in the south of France.

This area of France is dominated by Mont Ventoux, a regular venue for a stage of the Tour-de-France.  Here it can be seen behind the town of Malaucene, shrouded in clouds.

Closer to Mt Ventoux is the old hillside town of Brantes that now seems to have been taken over by the holiday (or second home) brigade.  The white limestone of the upper reaches of Mt Ventoux can be seen to the left.

View from the bedroom window in the place we rented.  A nice thing to wake up to in the morning

This area of France is also famous for its lavender industry.  The centre of the activity is Sault.  The lavender fields are laid out in long lines of plants and the flower are cut off for processing.

This is the place we stayed in the Beaujolais area, in a village called Vergisson.  The familiy lived downstairs and the upstairs rooms were rented out.

A typical scene in the Beaujolais area, overlooking the village where we stayed and all the vineyards.  The house is on the left of the picture.
